Debenhams order but brand partner is not active?

Hi all,
I bought a couple of dresses to try for an event from Debenhams and need to return one dispatched from their “brand partner”. However, the link they provide takes me to a brand that (on searching companies house) issued a wind up order in 2024 and their website is not active.
Does anyone know how I can get my money back? Debenhams have been no help - also not sure why they are selling items from brands that are non existent?
Paid using a Debit card.
lessons - pay on credit and don’t use Debenhams !
Thanks

Almost certainly because they bought the brand name when that company was wound up and their assets were sold off?[Deleted User] said:Hi all,

TheRange did a similar thing when Wilko went bust - they bought the brand identity.
In fact Boohoo group did that themselves in 2021 when the department store chain Debenhams collapsed and they bought the brand identity which you purchased from.2 -
Thanks - that makes sense. I guess I don’t understand why if they bought the brand, why they’re telling me to return to a non existent brand? I can’t return the dress anywhere currently for a refund because Debenhams say it’s a “brand partner” and that brand partner doesn’t seem to exist.Alderbank said:

Has anyone experienced getting a refund for something like this before? Should I ask my bank?0 -
How do you know the "brand" is "non existent"? You're almostly certainly looking up the wrong (i.e. old) company on Companies House (and bear in mind that there is no requirement for registered company names to resemble their brand name).[Deleted User] said:

Because when going on Debenhams to return the order, they say it has to be be returned “via the brand partner” and provide a link - however this link goes to a website that hasn’t been active for some time. (Weird as someone posted me something and it wasn’t Debenhams as another dress in the same order came direct?).user1977 said:

have managed to resolve now via my bank - they confirmed the company (“brand partner”) I was told to return the item to is no longer operating. Hope that helps anyone else in the same positions (and I’ll avoid Debenhams in future!)0 -
How has it been resolved?[Deleted User] said:user1977 said:

If your bank has done a chargeback, who have they processed the chargeback against?
And if it was a chargeback be aware that the trader - whoever that is - can successfully challenge it, and even if they don't they might try to sue you if you haven't returned the goods.
It might not have been permanenetly resolved...0 -
It has not been resolved.[Deleted User] said:

You have just got a refund from Debenhams bank.
Expect either the chargeback to be rejected, (they have 45 days) as you have not returned the goods & you will be redebited. Or if they do not do this. Then they will go legal to reclaim the funds.
Chargebacks have no legal standing. They are just card regulationsLife in the slow lane0
