Nat West Bank Statements

Any one know what DEBIT (all upper case) is used for on a Nat West bank statement, its obviously for monies going out but it's not a Standing Order, Direct Debit, ATM or Card transaction. Is it something done in Branch perhaps? Its not in the list of statement codes.

In the absence of any informed responses from those who may know the answer, could it be a continuous payment authority perhaps? Do you recognise the recipient and/or the value, and is it just a one-off?0

Thanks for your reply I'm looking at a late family members bank statements, we are trying to establish where and how all the money went, in all the myriad of substantial withdrawals there's about 5 with just DEBIT as the payment type. We recognise all the other withdrawal types. Think I'll have to go to the bank to ask - nearest one is miles away unfortunately.0

On my statements it's used for "round ups" (the automatic sweep to savings).0

"DEBIT" could be used for transactions executed in a branch, over the counter cash withdrawal maybe.
Perhaps it was for something that required special payment instructions that automatic payments did not cover.0 -

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
