Massive Windows Update

KB5065426 is now being forced on us - it's a huge download
some users are reporting up to 88Gb in size
Mine appears to be over 10Gb !
Be warned
MS claim it to be 3.6Gb which is big enough
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Does it really matter? with FTTP it won't take long.0

Is that for Win11 or last for Win10?0

It is not being forced, you can still turn off updates, or disable them entirely and only install them manually if you really want.MouldyOldDough said:KB5065426 is now being forced on us - it's a huge downloadsome users are reporting up to 88Gb in size
Gb or GB? 88GB, or Gb if that is what you mean is only 8.1GB.
Ignoring that the size is actually a reporting error, the download size is 3.6GB, although if one were updating form a clean install of Windows 11 it would also download other updates, 10GB could happen if you had not downloaded updates for many months.MouldyOldDough said:Mine appears to be over 10Gb !Be warnedMS claim it to be 3.6Gb which is big enough
That being said, 3.6GB is not a lot to download, or even 10GB.2 -

You could, but then all Linux desktops are pretty poor and not a patch on windows.Vitor said:Ooft, you can d/l a Linux Parsley distro for less.3 -
Just updated mine ...Strange GB gone down.
Before 36.5 GB 203.561 files
Now 36.1 GB 183.942 files.

Probably the only point in its favour!Vitor said:Ooft, you can d/l a Linux Parsley distro for less.0 -
I am guessing that you mean total system storage usage rather than the specific update? The end of a Cumulative Update runs disk cleanup, which could easily explain the difference as it will remove old update install files, clear some cache and empty the recycle bin.HumberFlyer said:Just updated mine ...Strange GB gone down.

Windows Update will install what you need for your system based what's already installed. The download is 3.72Gb.Also note that the local displayed ifnformation will probably include all locally stored updates. The 88Gb figure you've quoted is ridiculous and is more likely to be a major update (or a mistype). Windows 11 stock only takes up 25Gb on its own.And it is not "forced" anything, stop being so melodramatic.5
