    In my wallet, 3 ...

Abbey 5% cashback, for food supermarket shopping (and as many Christmas presents as possible).

ASDA credit card, for petrol at ASDA with 2p per litre (still at 99.9p, so effectively 2%) discount.

Capital One Platinum, now at 1% cashback, for "M&S and everything else".

All 3 are paid in full by Direct Debit.

    At home, 1 ...

Halifax One card, 0% for 12 months, used for car insurance.

As below, the final payment is "ring fenced" in a savings account, so I am paying by instalments, but earning interest!

PS. I did also briefly have a Barclaycard Platinum card for the £50 High Street voucher freebie.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Just a couple. One for general use, and a second as a backup.

  • Hi, I have the following:

    Barclaycard - £0
    Lloyds Mastercard - £0
MBNA - £7,000 (to pay my tax bill) at 0% until Oct 08
Mint - £4,000 (also tax bill) at 0% until March 09
    Amex cashback card - £0

I have the cash for my tax bill in a 7.5% savings account, so I'm not really in debt, just choosing to pay it on 0% and then will pay back the cards before the 0% expires.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • I've just been having a clear out, what didn't offer me decent repeat deals have just been binned.

    Amex - just cancelled it
Tesco - was stoozing with it but deal done so just canceled it
Virgin - was stoozing with it but deal done so just cancelled it
MBNA Gold - Just canceled it
MBNA BMI card - use it for work for the airmiles I get
    Halifax One
    Egg
Egg Money - handy for the stoozing
Capital 1 - 0% 0 fee card which is my current stooze, ends April though.

It's not how many I have in my wallet (usually 3 or 4 - Amex, CapOne,
John Lewis to work the self-bar code-reader in Waitrose...), it's how many I have in the filing cabinet rarely or never used (M&S, FD, Morgan Stanley, 3 or 4 Charity Affinity cards, Nationwide for abroad, Asda for petrol when the CapOne 4% runs out etc etc...)!!
  • Nationwide for use abroad - limit £2k but only used for hol spending
M&S just finishing 0% at end Jan - limit £9k and about £7k spend
Ulster bank for M&S balance transfer - £3k limit
    Virgin £9.5k to stooze.

I only keep one card in my wallet at a time - whatever my spending card is (currently M&S). I need a new spending card fairly soon but holding off cos we are thinking of investing in new computers and would like to have the 5% cashback card for that so don't want to get it too soon in case it runs out .... will keep using M&S in the meantime and just paying off the limit.

**edit**21castlehill can I ask how you go about getting a repeat deal? I can't exactly see the argument to make... since they aren't getting any £ from me why would they keep me on IYSWIM...what exactly do you say when you phone up? Would love to keep M&S on the go till I get things sorted...
  • I usually make a few purchases for a while after the 0% has run out so they get some merchant fees (but still pay card off every month) then call them up & ask for a deal to transfer a balance to their card, I have no specific tale to spin them. If they offer a decent deal (many do) I take it, if they don't I close it as cards no use to me anymore. Sometimes you win sometimes you don't but I Never loose.
