See the funny wee thing in t'middle? That's the rotating drive coupler/spigot/thingy that engages with the pips on the underside of the glass turntable, and makes it turn.
That's why the glass turntable should always be there.
    That pizza looks mmmmm.

Oh ok I'll leave the glass plate and wheel thing underneath where it is and put enamel thing on top.

Should the thing I circled stay where it is or be removed?   It's not some packaging or something which needs removing?

    Good grief! Leave things alone!
That's the protective cover for the microwave generator - the 'magnetron'. It's made of mica or plastic, and allows the mws to pass through, but stops the mag from being spattered by food.
    Do not touch.
    Wipe gently to clean only.
    Read the instructions.
(But cheap and easy to replace if needed after a few years)

So used microwave setting and took out the enamel plate and grill rack.   Put enamel plate back in LEAVING the glass plate and wheel thing underneath glass plate and will put a Pyrex dish on top of all that to cook apple crumble

The instructions state that "When using the Convection oven the glass turntable should be in position and must have the metal tray placed on top". See p34 here: 27L Slim Line BP:E00036R20BP Qk4

That just means don't place the glass turntable on top of the metal tray. You don't need to use the metal tray or wire rack at all if you don't want to.

I don't think that's at all clear from the instructions. It says the glass turntable must have the metal tray placed on top, not that the metal tray can optionally be placed on top, or that if using the metal tray it should be placed on top.
