Changing supplier for gas/electric

My last 12 months use cost  £1416

Utilita estimate next year at £1511

EDF estimate my use at £1342 so I'm looking at about £170 over the year if I don't change.

If I switch with Uswitch I need do nothing myself but I do want to be sure I go on variable so will I then need to ring EDF? 
Are Uswitch reliable or am I better doing it myself?

FYI @Scot_39 that link returns a 404. ISTR it only redirected to the Citizens Advice page which still operates, possibly even more effectively than the last time I used it: Check if your smart meter should work in smart mode - Citizens Advice

Oops - it leaves the bracket at end in - so bombs out looking for /)/ - sorry

Will edit them out - the whole page might be a useful reminder for what has happened to many - but maybe not all smets1  (its been a while but have seen posts - one this year iirc - for some whos meters hadn't been replaced or integrated)

Unless there's an option to specify variable direct debit, you need to call or email them to change it from fixed monthly direct debit.
