The balance of my RBS reg saver has reached £5K. Interest isn't paid on balances over £5K. Does anyone know if I can stop the monthly payments and just sit on the balance earning 5.5% ?

Yes you can.4

Just for clarity, interest is paid on money in excess of £5,000 but it is at a reduced rate of about 1.1% I think.Don't forget to scrape the interest every month to put in a higher paying account.3
