Renting - a mental health and bedroom question

I am applying for housing with the council. At present I live in a one bedroom place. I have a wonderful variety of mental health issues and when I get really down, or I am heading down I need someone to stay with me to help me. This is why I'm moving mainly, to get a two bedroom place to facilitate this. Am I likely to be allowed 2 bedrooms given that one wont permanently be used?
Thank you
Thank you

You pay the rent landlord (council, private..) wants and you can have whatever number of rooms you like. But think benefits will only be for you. Good luck. (Age 77, 5 benefits as an OAP...)1

It very much depends on your councils allocation policy. They vary from area to area. I suggest you view yours on their website to see whether this would be allowed.
An alternative would be a sofa bed in your living room of a one bedroom property.4 -
If you have medical evidence you might be allowed an extra bedroom for these reasons. A friend was allowed a move to a place with a garden as she had medical evidence it would be beneficial for her mental health.0 bonus saver

it is very unlikely that you would be given a two bed place given that it is only for occasional use however this depends on the availability of property within your area.
A sofa bed as suggested might be a good compromise.2 -

Incorrect for Council allocation, they will be allocated x number of rooms, and won't be offered/allowed to bid on a property with x+ number of rooms.

Thank you, that is helpful. I am nervous about applying and wanted to check things out first.
