Cabot threatening to visit

I have a few accounts with Cabot that I have been paying regularly every month over many years, never missing a payment. Within the last few weeks they have been constantly trying to call me between 8 and 9 every morning and then leaving a voicemail when I don't answer. I tend to avoid answering calls anyway as I'm partially deaf and struggle to hear. They also send letters every couple of months asking me to call them as my 'situation may have changed'. I ignore these as well.
A few days ago I received a letter from them stating that unless I contact them they will send someone round to my house! Are they really allowed to do this? I'm panicking. I've built my credit score back up over over the years and don't want to ruin it. It wasn't easy!

They have as much power to enter your house as the Avon lady.

How many years have you been paying Cabot?

What type of debts are they?

If they are credit cards or loans have you ever requested CCAs?

Don't worry about the threat of door knockers, you can just ignore them, but it could be possible to stop paying them altogether, please answer my questions

The mostly likely door knockers are Resolvecall or Verify. They have as much power as next door's kittie. Just thank you, no, go away.

It's unlikely but if anyone turns up you just treat them like a political campaigner or door-to-door salesman or the JWs

    No thanks

Thanks for the info. It must be around 15 years if not more that I have been paying them. It was Shelter that first started dealing with them for me and I'm pretty sure that they all were able to produce CCAs. It is such a long time ago, but sure I've still got the paperwork somewhere. In fact I think I scanned it all. Just need to find where I saved it! :)
  • OK see what you can find, but you shouldn't have been paying these people for that length of time, how much do you still owe them and who were the original lenders?

I'll get all the info later when I finish work and post it here. Thanks so much for your help so far!

I had the exact same thing nearly 2 years ago. Was paying them on a regular basis. I got a letter stating that they wanted me to up the payments, I ignored them for weeks.

They sent a caller round, I was out at the time and they gave my wife a card to call.  I then CCA'd them i then received a letter stating that for now they are unable to get this, but the debt still remains.

This was 2 years ago, and I haven't paid them a thing since. They send me letters, and today left me a voice mail to contact them. I have no idea how they got my number but I have blocked this number and canceled voicemail on my mobile.

Every letter they send, at the bottom it still states that the debt in unenforceable.

If  you are not 100% sure about CCAs there is nothing to lose by asking for them ( not the current account )

Use this Credit agreements | Getting information | National Debtline

It is a pity you have been paying so long, have you checked your credit reports to see what they say about these if anything?.
