My brain is telling me to put in the hard work and build a concrete base. My back is telling me to find an easier solution. There will be a lot of weight in the shed as I want to use it for woodworking (heavy machinery, benches, in and out a lot). Thank you for everyone's input. I'll keep a look out for anymore replies, but i think I'll have to start digging the garden up and make some shuttering.
You will need a solid flat base. Can you imagine the noise and vibration of the shed if the foundation is not done properly.

    Not always the case.
I worked for a firm called Telephone Cables who's factory was in Dagenham Dock. When making large pair counts of cable there was a tolerance of faulty pairs depending on the cable size.

One thing they were proud of was their record in that sense compared to other factories, they put this down to the factory being built near the river on what had been marshy ground. Rather than have the factory floor as concrete  they opted to have a wooden floor consisting of wooden blocks very similar to the block paviors used for drives and parking spaces nowadays.

This resulted in better results on the long run of stranding machines used in the manufacture of cables as it was felt the combination of ground and flooring had a dampening effect.
