Ryanair refuse to cancel

Hello, due to sudden serious illness we cannot travel. We were due to fly with ryanair in 24 days. I have travel insurance but cannot claim without documents proving cancellation, but ryanair will not cancel therefore they will not provide the docs I need. I am not claiming a refund from ryanair, just would like some simple record of cancellation so I can claim from insurers. Is it possible that ryanair's procedures effectively invalidate my insurance? The chat bot is no help and the customer services recording will not pass me to an operator as it thinks my flight is more than 30 days away. does anyone have any ideas?

Why would Ryanair cancel it for you? Why can't you cancel your own booking and there is your record?0

The flight isn't cancelled.
The reason you want to claim on your insurance is not because the airline has cancelled, it is because of sudden serious illness of one of your party. Nothing to do with Ryanair.
The usual process would be that their GP or hospital staff will provide a letter saying that their patient is not able to fly on that date. They do that all the time.
Is your issue that the person with the sudden serious illness is outside your circle of people who would qualify for insurance cancellation?1 -
@suffolkgirl_1 - I think you need to go back to your travel insurance provider and ask them to clarify what evidence and/or documentation they need from you in order to process a claim against your insurance for not being able to travel due to sickness.
As others have said, this has nothing to do with Ryanair as they haven't cancelled anything.
[Edit: the above assumes that the policy covers the sickness of the person in question...]0 -
I understand that you need to cancel your flight booking. Travel insurance won't pay out for the flight whilst you're still technically able to take the flight or transfer the flight to a different date/different person. If Ryanair aren't letting you cancel the flight but will let you reschedule, then maybe this is an avenue to explore.0

This is normally only a problem pre-flight, post flight airlines will confirm you didnt travel etc.2 -
Does the OP need to wait until after the scheduled flight then?0

This seems to be another one of the problems I've noticed recently about terminology. As has been said, you aren't claiming because a flight has been cancelled. You are claiming because illness is preventing you from travelling. The outstanding question is whether or not the person who is ill falls into one of the categories covered by your travel insurance.1

AIUI you have to wait until after the flight & then you can get a "no show" letter from Ryan Air
"How do I get a “No Show” or “Confirmation of Travel” letter for my Insurance Company? To request an insurance “no show” or “confirmation of travel” letter please click here."
