Look up Lower Explosive Limit as well as Higher Explosive Limit.chrisw said:I've got some 'other' makes eg Altagas that I just can't get rid of. The normal stockists won't take them back, the local tip/recycling centre won't take them and you're not allowed to put them in skips or similar. I'm thinking of taking an angle grinder to them if I can be sure of them being empty.
A gas cylinder should never be considered "empty" by a layman in the sense you mean.0

Being 'empty' isn't enough, the flammable content also has to be purged. An 'empty' cylinder could still contain enough gas to do serious damage.chrisw said:I've got some 'other' makes eg Altagas that I just can't get rid of. If you are not getting anywhere with the retailers you could try contacting your Local Fire Prevention Officer for advice, especially about local arrangments for recycling.WSB said:I have a collection of large empty patio gas and propane gas bottles.
What is the most cost effective use of them?
Should i get them refilled or can you part exchange them for new ones?
Currently, they're in mg garage taking up space.
Also it might be worth checking your house insurance policy incase you are inadvertently breaking one of the clauses.1

There used to be an agreement that the bottle owners would take their own bottles back - Calor etc. At least from commercial premises. Maybe contact the actual company whose name is on the side. They might ask you to drop off somewhere rather than send a wagon round to collect them.1
