Reputable moving companies

DH and I are having to move for medical reasons and its becoming rather urgent as we can barely manage our external stairs plus we need an extra room to dialyse DH.
We currently own out flat but over the last 2 tears there has been an influx of horrible neighbours in the street and next door and below me who have turned what was a nice area into a slum to the extent I can't sell our flat as nonestatecagent will list it.
Because of this we have been extremely lucky to be allocated a housing association house which we are thrilled about.
The only issue is its right at the very North of Scotland in Nairn which is a lovely place but we live in Glasgow. We are really excited but have yet to view it but it looks great on google maps. I know the actual move will be expensive as we are both disabled so will need to get the moving company to pack.
Can any one recommend any removal firms in Scotland that have been used for long distances or at the opposite side of the spectrum, are there any your advise to keepbwell away from.
TIA

I think sometimes you can get reviews / recommendations on local facebook groups.
Really the crucial bit is packing and loading / unloading - the travel in between is not any problem for the company, though suspect they may have to factor in an overnight stay at that distance.
Hope this works out for you - Nairn is quite a distance!1 -
Definitely look at facebook and get recommendations. I have moved 8 times and have consistently used local family run businesses. It's highly unlikely that it will all be completed in a day as it's a 180 mile trip though smaller companies can be very flexible by using 2 different crews. You would stand a much better chance of that if you pack yourself as packing takes a lot of time (and money) but of you get them to pack then be prepared to have to find overnight accommodation.
With my last move 5 years ago my stuff needed to go into storage as I was still looking for my next house. Because I was using a family run firm they were happy to look after my garden pots and indoor plants for me, one of which was a 7ft high acer tree for no extra cost. Definitely get recommendations and get a few quotes and quiz them as to how they will work on those days

It’s 9 years since my last move but I’ve always used Pickfords. I’m also disabled so need them to pack for me, and the 3-man crew did my 2-bed house in about an hour 😀. They will not however unpack at the other end so be aware you’ll need to do that yourself or arrange help.
good luck with the my1 -
Thank you all ever so much. I will have to figure out how to use Facebook which I've avoided for all these years.I can probably pack some of the stuff myself and leave them to do the heavy stuff. DH can't as he has kidney failure and is on dialysis and can't risk damaging his access so it seriously limits him. Funny enough, I started decluttering after 66 years in the one house I've gathered s ton of clutter plus mum's things which I've just never been able to dispose of. I have about 20 bin bags of stuff in my spare room that I'll need to get someone to take to the tipIt's times like this that I'm aware that it's just us as we have no family and the only friends we have left are in Liverpool.I shall go order boxes and packing stuff.0

Another vote for Pickford.
Used to move from Scotland to England , including storage, and again. Moving England to Scotland.
Then again moving from Fife to Caithness.Always happy with the price and service. My last move included plants and a summer house( we dismantled it ).Just make sure you tell them everything that is going. I had moved all plant pots together so they could see them all.0 -
For stuff, check whether any local charities basically do house clearance. Some might take furniture, others books, some extra bedding and clothes.
The big issues are soft furniture which doesn't have fire safety labels and electrical items. Our local hospice has someone who PAT tests electrics, including old lamps, kitchen gear.
And with regard to Facebook, if you have a local friend or two and outside space consider having a "yard sale". Get the friends to put stuff outside and advertise on FB, even if it's free.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1 -
I think getting removers to do the packing is often well worth the money. It will be done very quickly and you don't have half packed boxes around the house for days or weeks. In most cases, their insurance will not cover anything that they haven't packed which is another consideration. It is still a good idea to clear out as much of your stuff as possible as other posters have suggested.2

I don't know whether GB Liners would cover your area, but we had two company moves with them and they were very good. Packing service was quick and efficient, and nothing broken.Agree that the packing service is well worth paying for and generally doesn't cost a huge amount more than DIY packing. They do in hours what took me weeks to pack.Make £2025 in 2025
