On-line photo licence renewal

A few weeks ago my OH received a letter from the DVLA to renew her licence as she is soon to have her 70th birthday.

When we tried to renew the licence on line, it failed with the message stating she had to submit a postal application and include a photo. Her passport was renewed only a couple of years ago.

Anyway, we thought it was worth another try after a couple of weeks, before wasting money in a photo booth. Much to my surprise it worked, I guess there may have been a glitch in the DVLA system.

There has been mention on this forum of others not being able to renew on line and having to post an application, it is worth trying again after a few days. No idea what the difference was, as the data we entered was exactly the same in both cases.

Alternatively go to the Post Office (only bigger offices though, you can search them up)

The DVLA system was unable to verify identity from new passports.

it was stated that a fix was due by later on 2025.

I guess later has arrived.
