You are back in the same position as when you made the booking so you're all square. I've used sites like airbnb extensively and usually had a good experience.

But that's just it, I'm not.
I specifically bought the gift vouchers in order to book this (I get a discount through blue light) and paid for the reservation immediately with the e-gift card
So now I don't have the money to be able to pay for alternative accommodation thru a different site and I certainly don't have nearly £1k to book the next best thing Airbnb have on offer
This was the first time I booked with them but subsequently I have booked and stayed in several places over the summer. I have not had such great experiences as you and this is the final nail in the coffin for me. I don't want to book anything else with them.... So over a barrell
To get you back in the position you were in would mean the return of the e-gift card.  That still doesn't help you, and as I see it, it's not Airbnb or the host's fault that you elected to purchase a gift card through an entirely separate site.  That's a separate transaction.

You'll need to make a proper calculation of your loss and attempt to sue the host for that sum.

Have you contacted the host directly?
The reason I ask is that a friend of ours has just sold his AirBnB properties and we were discussing the change of ownership. As I understand it bookings cannot be transferred from one owner to the next, but must all be cancelled, giving the guests the option of rebooking with the new owner.
In this situation it is not a scam or fiddle to inflate prices but an Airbnb policy.

If, and I know it’s a very big if, the hosts in Windsor were in the process of selling there could still be a glimmer of hope!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have just tried that too but just got an apology and advice to contact Airbnb!
