If anyone could tell me what he would get that would be great as i can put some money into his account if needed to pay bills. Thanks for any help and hope I have worded it correctly

Sorry I don't know what will happen, and can't find an answer anywhere, but what I would expect to happen is that he will get his normal ESA payment on 10th September, and then he will get a reduced ESA payment on 24th September. This payment will cover the period 11th Sept to 14th Sept, which  is the remaining period of eligibility for ESA. The payment will be about 28.5% of his normal payment (4/14), so should be about £80.31. If the payment is more than this, ring the DWP (ESA team) with your Dad and check that they know he has reached his state retirement age.

As I say, I can't be sure that this is what will happen, but this is what I would expect based on what I know.

Has your father applied for his state pension? Or have you done this for him? You need to do this to ensure that his pension payments start arriving on time. The state pension is paid every four weeks in arrears, but it isn't paid on the same day of the week for everyone, so it can nearly five weeks before the first payment arrives. After that it will be paid every 4 weeks.

Do you know how much pension he will be receiving and have you check to see if he is eligible for Pension Credit?

Is he still paying council tax? He probably shouldn't be as there is an exemption for severely mentally handicapped tax payers.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

ESA is paid two weeks in arrears, so the previous advice is correct.
  • Might be good to use a benefits calculator to see what he's entitled to. Have you checked the qualifying criteria for Attendance Allowance (in England)?

I don’t know if my experience is unusual but when I was given ESA the DWP said I would stay on it until I reached  state pension age.  Just before I reached SPA the DWP stopped the ESA and started my SP without me having to do anything.

I got ESA in about 2012 and reached SPA in 2014.
