Yes, I've had a full credit refund from BG in the past. I switched to a different supplier.

At this time of year - unless your leaving them - it is unlikely you would receive a full 100% refund.

Some firms now target 1 month / 5 weeks balance at the end of Mar (Ovo / Octopus), and so would probably now expect 2-3 months in credit by now as we are in autumn and heating season approaches.

  • The nature of the fixed direct debit payment method has progressively changed and they are now effectively a form of pre-payment account. You pay for your energy in advance by making a fixed monthly payment but with a small amount of leeway in case you go "overdrawn". On the flip side, you do get a lower rate for paying this way. So in answer to your question you are unlikely to get a full refund unless you switch to another supplier or payment method - or find a way to break the system. What you can often do is negotiate or request a lower monthly payment if you are building up an excessive amount of credit.
