Radio Teleswitch Replacement and tariffs
Hello, just looking for some advice. 4 months on from EDF trying and failing to swap my rts meter for a smart alternative I’m now embroiled in a ‘discussion’ about tariffs and rates. Having been on both a standard variable rate and standard off peak since forever I’m told that I must have an E7 tariff which will mean I’m £500 a year worse off. Now I don’t mind having the meter, but do I have to accept this tariff do you think? I’m told my existing standard rates can’t be replicated on the smart meter. My reading of the rts switch off is that customers should be no worse off than before. Am I wrong? Thanks .

EDF have taken the business decision to discontinue your old tariff. They're apparently allowed to do this by Ofgem. The closest alternative to the old RTS-metered tariffs that EDF currently offer is E7. You've a choice of this or the flat-rate SVT.If you (or your landlord, if you rent) and EDF can contrive to make your property suitable for a smart meter, you'll have the option of EDF's smart tariffs and tariffs from other suppliers. The reason it might involve you (or your landlord) is that there might need to be some electrical work downstream of the smart meter; that's the property owner's responsibility, not EDF's.N.
