Advice on water butt
We would like to install a water butt on the roof terrace at the back of the house, but are unsure how the routing of the hose to the diverter would work. The proposed location for the water butt is marked by the red rectangle in the picture. The gutter above it drains to a downpipe which is around the corner of the building, which means that the hose between the water butt and the diverter in the downpipe would have to go around that corner. The distance would probably be around 1 metre.
Can anyone advise on whether a "round the corner" hose connection would be problematic?

the difficulty I think will be having the water butt high enough for the diverter to be parallel to the ground between the butt and downpipe. Also how will you reach the downpipe to saw into it? And do you have the freeholder's permission to do so? (assuming you are leasehold but even if you are a freeholder of the property you may need to get other's permission)
The other thing is as this is a roof terrace will it be able to take the weight of the full butt.

Yes I think the water butt will need to be pretty tall (and on stand), and a ladder will be required to fit the diverter to the downpipe. It's a freehold property so no issues there - no other properties are affected. I don't think the weight will be a problem. We often have social events with 8-10 people on the roof terrace.0

But will you want to have 8-10 people out there when you have the waterbutt installed or will you definitely keep them indoors?
The weight was the first thing that sprang to mind. It's not going to be spread like people but weight on one corner only.
Water about 1kg a litre.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

If you're using "hose" (as opposed to a hard pipe) you'd have to find some way to make sure it doesn't kink at the corner. A hard pipe might be better as you can buy proper corners for it. You'd also need to consider how to prevent the feed getting clogged up if it's a relatively small diameter, and how you'll rod it out if or when it does. (I don't have a diverter so I'm unfamiliar with the sizes, and clogging might not be the same issue for you as it is for my greenhouse water butt which is near a tree).
Could you modify the guttering so that the downpipe comes out directly above the proposed location of the water butt, have the diverter go straight into the butt, then continue the downpipe around the corner and onto the existing lower section?0
