Selling house care home fees

My fil had a stroke last year and had to go and temporarily live in a care home that was a year ago! We have finally been able to secure an adapted bungalow for them to both move in to.
I have a few enquires
My my fil and mil own there house mortgage free, obviously this now needs to be sold in order for them to move into the bungalow. When this happens will his care home fees need to be repaid we are aware that only his side of the house sale will be taken into account.
The 2nd thing is up until now my mil has been fortunate to be able to life on her savings from pensions being cashed in, now that has all run out, she now has no money 2 properties to pay for (until 1 is sold) and no money coming in apart from 400 uc does anyone no if she can claim housing element part of uc with her still owning her house. From next week it will be up for sale.
I have many more questions but these are the most important at the moment.

The answer to the first question is no. No idea with the second but you would be better off asking that over on the benefits board.0

If the bungalow is rented then she can only claim Housing Element once they move into the bungalow.
Should that happen before the house is sold, the value of the house can be disregarded (due to being up for sale) for 6 months, with the possibility of that time frame being extended.

To expand on the “no” answer the care home fees won’t need to be repaid because any property that spouse is still living in is exempt from the financial assessment.
Are they buying the bungalow or renting it. -I would presume renting because of your mention of UC but you do say the current property needs to be sold in order them to move into the bungalow so it’s a tad unclear. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Are neither getting a state pension?0

Yes, if they’re over state pension age they wouldn’t apply for UC but state pension/ pension credit and housing benefit.
I am not sure if they would get it, if they own another house. Certainly once they sold the house they wouldn’t be eligible.0 bonus saver
