I was bent to pick up my brand new car today, but the dealers rang me to say that all JLR Computers are down and they are having problems with DVLA. I am now sat at home waiting.how long does it take to tax I paid in full for this car last Tuesday. I have seen the car and arranged to pick it up this morning.

This truly is a first world issue.3

Taxing a car takes seconds. The real question is how long it will take to sort out the JLR/DVLA system problems. How long is a piece of string?gillian221 said:I was bent to pick up my brand new car today, but the dealers rang me to say that all JLR Computers are down and they are having problems with DVLA. This is a sign of things to come. Reverse out the deal if you can, as soon as you can!!! Buy something else, for your own sanity.0

If this is a brand new car, it's not just "taxing it". It has to be registered in your name to tax it in your name.
And that first registration requires JLR's computers to liase with DVLA's, in order to transfer all the VIN, emissions, etc etc data.
Today is the first day of 75 plates, so there's going to be lots of cars being registered today.0 -
Probably a good job a very small proportion of them would have been from JLR 😉Mildly_Miffed said:

At least your problems will start slightly later1

My son has a mate who works for JLR as a tech. They are massively behind target because they spend every waking hour fitting new engines. There is a huge backlog of cars, they don't have enough courtesy cars, and any customer complaints which are not VOR are not going to be looked at for many, many months.photome said:At least your problems will start slightly later0 -
Is this proof that it's not just your dealer making things up?

If it's a genuine security incident (as opposed to a dodgy patch rollout) then it is unlikely to be resolved within 24 hours. Parts of M&S were restored within six weeks but the rest took several months.Mildly_Miffed said:Is this proof that it's not just your dealer making things up?

What matters now is the efficacy of their business continuity arrangements i.e. manual registration using the appropriate backup systems and even paperwork.0
