I tried to pay an invoice by creit card, but when it came to the authorisation I needed to have the app. Previously they would sent a code to my phone and this worked well.
I don't want another app cluttering my phone and get frustrated by all these companies urging you to install their apps.
Does anyone know of a card which allows on-line purchases without the need for an app.

The problem is SIM Swap Fraud, Info Sec people are forever point at the fact SMS is not a secure mechanism and many have been subject to a sim swap, ie someone gets your number transferred onto their sim so when they go to fraudulently log into your account their phone receives the 2FA code.joonee said:I tried to pay an invoice by creit card, but when it came to the authorisation I needed to have the app. Previously they would sent a code to my phone and this worked well.

This is why most are now pushing for an app authentication as a much more secure mechanism to SMS.
A number of these setups are done poorly though, my AmEx (which I find very few places that dont accept it, especially if you add paying via PayPal into the equation) for example does go via the app but also has the ability to reject the app method and fall back to SIM. I dont use non-AmEx cards often enough online to recall who doesnt use the app and/or who uses an app but allows fallback to a SMS1
