Dimplex Quantum Storage Heater - Hot Casing
I have recently had 7 of these rads installed. They are supposed to be high retention and to quote dimplex. "The extra insulation also keep the outside of the heater cool when not in use " I have charged one up for the last 3 nights at the default temperature of 21 degrees. The charging stops at 7am. I turned the temperature down to 15 degrees so that they would not release heat. It is now 9.50 and the casing is hot and a thermometer on the casing shows 45 degrees. Something must be wrong. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Anthony

45C is not that hot - but yes seems warmer than cool.
An old nsh would be too hot to tge touch (scalding if not burning for any length of tine) after full charge in warm weather - in the same way a gch radiator would be at the old c70-75 flow setpoint many boilers used to ship with.
Tge latest ones give stats on core temps iirc - which could be iirc upto c100C.
Their high heat retention, not 100% heat retention.
And the real heat delivery from Quantums comes from fan assisted air circulation not passive radiation / convection. If your not running the output fan much, that core temp has plenty of time to leach out.
Wheras normally you'd be circulating c20C air around the core and the casing to keep everything cooler.
There has been a post where internal heat shields - inner casing - haven't been fitted right or become damaged / warped over time - but if all are similar - suspect its normal. Do a search here and se what temps were mentioned or casings felt like. One such post with others observations.

Id also check the charge taken - its probably dropping significantly now the core is hot and tge demand is likely low.
I dont have them but follow the threads - and later models have more user / technician diagnostics, but this from the Glen dimplex contractor help site might guide you to what's available on yours..

But if worried, call their helpline or as recent installs your supplier.0 -
Quantum's can get very confused if you are telling them through the programming you want heat then manually adjusting the temperature down the next day so that heat doesn't get released. They will start to try to get rid of excess heat.
Ours sometimes do it as we go from spring to summer and the weather is changeable as they'll take a charge based on room temps the day before then end up not needing to release it.
Ours are only a couple of years old and there's no issue with the heaters.
Rule of thumb is only ask them to do what you want them to do and avoid using another heat source in the room they're in.Officially in a clique of idiots0
