You don't have to use it very much but have it there in the background 'just in case'
Think I'll try ringing them to get someone to sort it rather than doing it via chat. Must admit I hate that you can wait forever between questions and answers as they are dealing with a dozen other chats all at the same time.
I always had one CA too, until mine went down and their solutions involved long waits over a week and/or long travels during working hours. No emergency cash from my banking app, no expedited delivery, etc. Since then, I've had a second CA with a small amount, so I can at least use my own money while the bank gets out of its own way.1 -

It was taken as per the T&C's so a little 'naughty' to be trying to invoke the DD indemnity.
Did you cancel the DD after the final payment was taken? That might be why they can't refund the credit.
The closure of the direct debit should have no bearing on whether a bank can transfer money to another bank account.
The nub of the matter is that someones processes have not been thought through properly and there is no reason why the OP should waste any time and should as they have done use the quickest pragmatic way of dealing with the situation which is to invoke the DD guarantee

The main reason for having a second bank account is if you have problems with the first one
There have been a fair number of posts on here people having their current account frozen for whatever reason which means if you only have one account then you have absolutely no access to banking facilities unless you open a new one.
Having a reserve one 'ready to go' is worth its wait in gold0 -

My OH is joint on these accounts plus he has 2 other accounts at yet another unrelated banking group. We keep meaning to set this up as joint for us both but haven't got round to it yet.
So I think I have this well covered. I did tell MBNA that I had a savings account but the CS person insisted that they could only use a current account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. And just as follow up - I checked my MBNA account and saw it now has a zero balance. But there's nothing showing to say that the money has been refunded.
So I've checked my current account and there are 2 credits showing for that amount, one with my card number & the other saying DD refund.
It will be interesting to see what happens next!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Although I don't agree with Brie's refusal to contemplate a second current account she raises an interesting point here:
"The rest are savings accounts which I can access online or at a cash point or purchase things using a debit card."
Is it usual for savings accounts to offer a debit (and ATM) card? I have several such accounts, but unless I have missed it none of them offers a card. Or is this just applicable to rather specific accounts?0 -

I mean you could suggest the OP commit fraud by making false claims about having cancelled the DD or such but is it really worth the consequences?
The OP paid too late for it to be factored into the DD and they said they knew this when making the payment.
Either call MBNA again and hopefully find a more sensible agent or simply spend it over the next month(s)0 -

There's things you can do with a current account that you cannot do with savings accounts. Such as receive payments from credit cardsI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Shouldn't recall a correctly taken direct debit. The advice is to always set up a direct debit to prevent such things.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
