  • Here is as promised my recipie for Carrot and Corriander soup (and by mine I mean one my Dad gave me that he got out of a book;) )

    2lb carrots
    1 onion
    2 parsnips or potatoes
    2 1/2 pints vegtable stock
    salt and pepper
    2 tbls corriander

Chop all veg and put in pan with vegtable stock. Season to taste and simmer for 30 - 45 mins. Add corriander and put through blender.

Thats all there is to it. I've just made it for the first time tonight and it was really easy. A good tip though is stir the soup whilst is is cooking not leave it for 45 mins like I did (got sidetracked clearing up and cancelling credit cards :j :j ) as it burns and I now have to scrub the pan   Perfect end to a perfect day :(

  • I'm ok thank you.

It was my first day back to work after Christmas so busy and one of my colleauges is trying to change lots of stuff at work to make it better but he changes stuff about my job whihc he really doesn't know anything about and doesn't consult me before he does it so everything is in a bit of a muddle and he winds me up

Then I checked my bank account to find that A+L took a mortgage payment out of my account yesterday when I don't actually have a mortgage with them anymore as I switched to Abbey last week. They will return it but could be today or could be next week!!

And then I paid a cheque into my account on Friday and it shows as being there and my balance includes it so I assumed it had cleared and paid my Dad and HSBC CC when I tried to pay my Mum ikt wouldn't let me then they blcoked my internet account so I when I rang them they said oh the cheque hasn't cleared yet  so that means I have gone up to my overdraft limit (not what my axccount currenlty looks like!!) so I had to extend my overdraft for a monthg in case any payments go out in the next couple of days  and I had to pay £25 to do it:mad: so i'm annoyed with myself  and with the bank because it really should be clear that those funds are not available

Anyway hopefully today will be better and I will have a NSP :D

Enough of me ranting on your thread sorry :o

    Have a nice day

Ok. Now that's done. I spent £7 on a new diary which I think is very reasonable considering that I have had an absolutely dire day at university and when I arrived back in the comfort of my home, I was greeted by a message from my exboyfriend. The exboyfriend who thought it was convenient to just stop talking to me. :lipsrseal So, considering the awfulness of this day, I am impressed with my non-spending.

  • Today is going to be an expensive day. I not only have to get some shopping, but I said I would meet a friend for a non alcoholic drink tonight. I have budgeted for £20 and I am not under any circumstances spending more than that. I have my CCCS interview tomorrow and am thus preparing an SOA. Gah. These things are sent to try us.
I am trying to get into the good practice of checking my internet bank every day, or other day, just to keep on top of things.
Looking now, seeing as I have £400 spare, I would usually go and blow this, but not today. I will not go shopping, I will avoid shopping, because I am not going to let myself down. My best friend and I had a massive chat about things like this last night, and I have given myself a kick up the backside, just to keep me on the straight and narrow. Ex boyfriends or no! (). Hurrah!

  • Well, today has been an NSD, but tonight I need to go and meet a friend, so it won't be an NSD for long. Also, need to buy a textbook and give my flatmate money for the internet. AND I need to replace £2.50 from my sealed pot. Where is it all going?

How did the CCCS apt go?
  • Just found your thread, hope the appointment went ok. When I was a uni the student welfare office used to have budget planners & advice leaflets etc ......(wish i'd taken some notice at the time!):rotfl: Maybe it would be worth seeing if you can find out some info from uni as it would be geared towards students.

Well done on thinking about this when you're a student, I definately was far too busy having a good time (and sticking my head in the sand) to even contemplate saving money, I always figured any debt would just somehow magically disappear when I graduated!

Just keep plugging away at the money saving, what seems a lot of money at the beginning can be reduced amazingly over time, just break it down into little goals and don't forget to have fun - your student days are over very quickly relative to the rest of your life.
Who says I have to be normal? :p
  • Also meant to mention carrot & ginger soup is delicious too, very quick & cheap to make, practically same as recipe posted previously.

Another money saving tip for food (u may already do this) is to visit supermarket at times when they are likely to be reducing items for my favourite part of the store - the bargain bin! Although only buy as much as you can eat straight away or freeze otherwise u'll end up throwing food away.

I agree with you Sainsbury's is very expensive, if I ever have to go I make sure I visit green grocers first to stock up on fruit/veg as I reckon this is where S'bury's are most expensive, eg on sat mango in g/grocer was 59p & £1.59 in supermarket!!
Even more dramatic difference if you can go to a proper market, pineapples in Brum 3 for £1, S'bury's £2.99 each!!!
Who says I have to be normal? :p
