Hi Lemonpie,
Well done for getting on top of this so early. It's the leftovers from my student debts that I am still paying off now and I wish more than anything that I had seen this site earlier - if I'd known in 2002 that the OD I maxed in one term would still be with me 5-6 yrs later, I think I'd have fainted!
I know what you mean about wanting to go somewhere nice for lunch to escape the library blues (I am a librarian (of sorts)!!) Edinburgh is a lovely city though, what about making your sandwiches and taking them somewhere with a nice view to eat them as a treat? Maybe try get your friends to join in by planning a lunch time picnic? Maybe also wait until the weather warms up...!:D
Best of luck with this

Lol.
Don't go buying books at all - see if your uni lib will get them via interlibrary loan. They may charge you, but it might be cheaper that buying.
Also, an £80 fine? Most libraries have a cap for student fines. I know mine was £50 when I was a student. Go and have a chat with the helpdesk just to find out. If they have overcharged you, ask for a refund and don't take no for an answer!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Hi Claire (also my name lol),
Thanks for your posts! I never thought about the lunch thing, that'd be a great idea, seeing as my uni has a massive park next to it, I have been a fool to neglect it!
Also, about library fees, well they are meant to cap it, and it says on their website it is £50 but however, someone I knew got charged £150 and they said the cap was for books on long term loan. This is sneaky as the majority of the books people need are short term loans, or reserve books which you have for a day! I did think about challenging them, but they are notoriously bad for listening to students. I just hope they had a good Xmas party this year with all our money :cool:Anyway, thankyou so much for all your help!Total debt: £3400.

That's appalling. Does your SU have a comments box? Tell them about it and get as many people as possible to tell them about it too. The more people complain, the better the chance of someone addressing the problem.
Also, what does it say on the website? Unless it is specific as to the type of loan that is capped, do a screen shot and print it off to shove under their noses when you complain! Unless they are specific, it is a swindle. It's your £30 - a quarter of your store card!

I know, I am going to do something about it I think. It's a complete and utter waste of time trying to tell the union who are really debt ridden at the moment (haha) and the more money they rake in the better I think. Thanks anyway for your reply.Total debt: £3400.

Well, I am impressed. Today was another NSD, apart from my bus fare. That £40 is still intact in my purse. However, tomorrow will not be an NSD, as I am running out of food. I managed to resist the lure of a yoghurt at Boots and fish and chips on the way home, and stuck to my pre-made food. Seeing as I am feeling pretty ill and couldn't be bothered cooking, I feel I have fared well.
I am having a bit of an off day today, after I realised I won't be able to afford to pay my store card off in full, which I am very disappointed about. However, I am going to chuck £50 quid at it at the end of the month, which means half of it will be gone and the interest still pretty low. I just feel like everything is on top of me today, and I am trying to work out how much money I have to chuck at my overdraft this month etc. Absolutely cannot spend more than £40 this week. However, after checking my internet bank, I have a crafty £150 quid I did not know existed in there, which gladdens my heart a little. Indeed, upon examining this, I am surprised to find Gap (who I work for) have paid £50 into my account, even though it isn't pay day. Hmm, must not complain about this as they messed up all our pay and have now been given the correct money at least for all the overtime I did. However, on downside, I am £3 over my overdraft limit on my Nationwide account. Somebody will be making a trip to the bank on Monday
As far as diet goes, am properly starting on Monday, as all I really want right now is chocolate. I am joining Scottish Slimmers with my flatmate and best friend, so hopefully together we can do it. Although, truth be told, right now I am taking pleasure in eating my way through a bag of Minstrels. Well, to be fair, need to get them out the way before Monday
:rotfl:
Hope everyone's day has gone well, and that they are having a fabby weekend! :beer:Total debt: £3400.

Hi
I read your thread earlier and you inspired me to start my own. I am too trying to reduce my debt and loose weight this year so I just wanted to say good luck.
I have off days too. I lost 1/12lbs last week and celebrated it by eating cheese and a whole packet of chocolate snaps!!! I'm not pleased with myself today but I have been really good so hopefully that will make up for it. I joined Slimming World at the end of November but things went a bit wrong in December as it was my 30th Birthday and Christmas!! Still I'm back on track now.
I also have days where I get down about what I owe or realise I can't pay as much off as I would like but we both need to remember it is small steps and we will get there in the end.
Don't feel too disheartened you are able to pay half of the card off and as you have cut it up you can't put anything else on it
I too am addicted to this site, which makes a nice change from Facebook.
Anyway good luck I will keep checking how you are getting on.:EasterBun0 -
And you too! Thankyou so much for your kind reply. I too will check on how you are doing and in the meantime, if you need any help or advice feel free to contact me. Your lovely post really cheered me up, so maybe I can one day do the same for you?

Thanks again|!Total debt: £3400.

Also, just been told that I am going on holiday to Paris in the summer as part of my 21st birthday present from last year. This is even more incentive to save! Hurrah!Total debt: £3400.

No problem and thank you
On the diet front I have learnt today that watching Willy Wonkers Chocolate Factory is not good for chocolate cravings!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I am pleased that I resisted. Also drinking lots of water seems to help particuarly with meals it seems to fill me up.
I am hungry again and am trying to resist the After Eights hidden at the back of the fridge. I have hidden them behind the Muller Light Yogurts (12 for £3 at Tesco-bargin!!! and free on Slimming world!!!)and I can't be bothered to move the yogurts to get to them!!:EasterBun0
