E-ON Failed Smart Meter Installations and Tariffs
I am currently on the E-On Next Pledge Tracker which runs out Jan '26.. but... I have had 3 failed attempts to install Smart Meters with either non working, the Electic only or the Gas only.. no communication from E-On since March 25 about this.
How do I know whether to Fix (on some old readings), continue with the Tracker (on no readings) or Change Supplier to one that 'might' install working Smart Meters?
Thanks
Ant

Are you submitting manual readings? If you are, you will be able to work out your annual consumption and you can use one of the many energy comparison websites. If you're not submitting manual readings, you should start doing so.N. Unless your unable - in which case you should perhaps register on their PSR to get meter reading visits every 6 or 12m (mum had 6m, other suppliers do 12m) - You should be taking readings and reporting them monthly. To get accurate monthly statements.
Its likely a condition of your contract with EOn Next - its been in their standard T&Cs for years now.
Their should idealky therefore for many be no old data and no estimated bills involved, and EOn have an obligation to try to get readings manual or smart once per year.
You could nag EOn about your non smart smart meter comms failing, but they have clearly tried - and even now the best you would get for a failed installation under new Ofgem rules was iirc c£40 compensation.
But there might be options they haven't tried - external to meter cabinets aerials, han extenders to get gas to comms hub comms operational if distance tge issue.
Or their might now be a 4G cellular hub option if tge Vodafone network better than the telefonica (o2 et al) in the area - theres mixed reports suggesting these may even now be applied in the North in the old Arqiva LRR regions.
EOn dont make the meters, the firmware they run or control the network, nor do they control meter placement in your home - so even Ofgem realise there is a limit to their liability.
Some hubs / meters do appear to work better than others for some, some suppliers respond with new tech better than others, but seems EOn have made maybe 2 attempts already. And as above there are reasons outside any suppliers control why a swap might not work.0 -
