British Gas - Fixed Energy Tariffs

My fixed tarfiff ends in Sept - currently paying £221.63 a month, British Gas want me to move to a new tariff paying £250.85 per month, if i do not select the new tariff they will automatically move me to £263.74 per month. My account is currently £271.72 in credit, so it is a clear to me that I am currently overpaying at my current monthly DDR, SO why is there a need to increaes my monthly payment?

You only have just over a month's payment in credit so to me, coming to the end of the summer low usage period, that doesn't look enough to even things out in the winter so maybe they are correctly asking you to up your payment to cover higher winter usage. As an example we are currently three  months worth of payments in credit but I know that this will quickly lessen once we start using the central heating again.

The actual DD is really irrelevant.  Are they saying the tariff will remain the same or the tariff will increase as expected on 1st Oct.

What is your annual energy usage in kWh , and if you get the info from say last September to this August,
and pay attention to the readings to see if they are estimates. Then tell us what your current tariff is, and the new fix tariff. The DD is just an estimate of how much they think 12 months will cost + about 1/12th of that.
