FIX - better BEFORE or AFTER October 1st, 2025?

Our dual fuel fix always expires just before the new October price cap.
I've seen a suggestion that for the October 1st 2025 new price cap, it might be better to fix after the new cap comes in.
Could that be right? And why?
Any advice very welcome.

Providers wont just suddenly change their offerings on that day. Future rates, both confirmed and predicted, are all worked into current offerings.

As above, suppliers don't generally wait for changes in the Ofgem cap before revising their fixed tariffs. It's an ongoing process depending on what they can forward-purchase energy for.
Just as one example, Octopus have had six different 12-month fixed tariffs this month. Last month they had five.

The October price cap is based on wholesale prices mid May to mid August which is why suppliers have announced it already ....so I m told from a rep at Outfox Energy

It happened last year, fixes dropped to a lowest in a long time rate - I fixed 4 Oct 24.  Nothing though is certain, it is all down to the market conditions and fixes are all over the place, up one day down the next..

If you fix now, you could always change to new fixed deal if you see a better one soon afterwards.

Providing they don't charge an exit fee for an internal switch and that does depend on the supplier.
