2 weeks final rent

I have an unscrupulous landlord. When I checked with him in email where to pay final 2 weeks' rent to double check payee details are still correct, he gave me a totally different detail to what is in contract, and when wanted to set it up in bank the payee name is incorrect. I was advised by bank and result of online checking system not to proceed asmay be a scam, and even his bank will not put payment through, as I did a check online as it is the name that is incorrect. He came back twice to say it is a new account but that is neither her nor there. Since then nothing more. I am leaving because of the sheer hell have been through and my health has deteriorated. I feel now under severe stress as all I want to do is pay the 2 weeks and get out. I remain petrified and also that he will not appear to check room and take key and try to extract more money for things that dont exist with room itself. I have noone and nothing to help me. Cab will not help they ll just pass me onto places as before that do not provide anything. Thanking you in advance.

I don’t understand why you just don’t pay it to the account where you’ve always paid rent to which is presumably the account specified in the contract.1

I was not doing it, UC was paying it. As far as I know there was no deposit. It s the first time in 65 years I ve been harrassed both by landlord and criminal addict in next room, that is why I am in a traumatised state and just want to leave even wirh nowhere to go. In past I had some decent landlords and always used deposit to pay last few weeks and rhey were soery I was going. UC have finally taken an interest and a manager there will try to ascertain exactly where payments have been going to. I cant believe that the sick landlord would again try to scam me. He lies even to police. Bank advised me to leave a cheque or pay in cash but I wouldnt know who to make payee on the cheque, plus would need a written receipt for the money. This landlord goes by many surnames! Or uses several different business names. When I attached contract detail of payee etc he simply didnt reply, which confirms to me all the more he just wants the time to pass and can then try to get more money by saying I didnt pay the 2 weeks on time. I feel in a terrible abyss and there is literally noone to turn to. So much for the glossy brochures CAb have no concrete people they just refer you on, they just repeated checks I ld already done in addresses company names etc that was it. Council private tenancy just say they dont know, Shelter dont want to ever answer. I just want it to be over.0

This sounds like a broader trauma or councelling issue. The actual issue at hand of a payment is a simple one and there's many solutions.
1. Pay a small amount eg £1.23 to the bank details he is saying and ask the LL to confirm he received it. If so, then transfer the rest of the rent. As long as you are confident the person you are talking to is the LL, there's no risk here.
OR
2. Write a cheque in the name of the landlord. You don't need a specific format, just the name as per your tenancy agreement. When he cashes the cheque, it'll show up in your bank statement the same as if it was a bank transfer. If he doesn't then you still have the money.
OR
3. Ask UC where they sent the last rent payment to
OR
4. Don't pay and wait for the deposit deduction. This is a breach of your agreement, but with the current rules you'll effectively get away with it.0
