Themsthebreaks, I'm a bit in the doldrums with my reading ATM. It's most unlike me, I've turned to a book by L M Alcott, Eight Cousins which I'm enjoying even if it's a bit twee. I shall follow up with the sequel, Rose in Bloom which I read as a teenager (my mum's copy).
I’ve only recently started reading again. I’m aiming for one book a week, but it’s harder to finish one, if you’re not enjoying it so much.
Hope your sinusitis clears up soon x x6 -
Morning all, thanks @Gers for starting. Yesterday's weather turned out much better than forecast, dry and sunny, no rain. This morning it's bright and the sun is shining so far but showers are more than likely this afternoon.
I didn't get on here yesterday (sidetracked by "life") but have caught up with everyone's news now. The postman brought a letter from TV Licensing with a cheque attached for the refund they promised, a bit more than I expected, so I'll need to pay that in at the PO next week. Not sure why they just didn't pay it into my bank account directly but still ..... And I had an email from the Buy Nowt charity saying they'd be happy to take the tools I've offered them.
DS is coming later this morning so we can take some bags of donations to the CS first and then on to deliver the tools. I hope we can find a parking space outside or at least as near as possible! The only other must-do thing for today is to make a loaf of bread. Tea tonight is a prawn salad.
@Izzy - Your cleaning of that man's tie might only be a small act of kindness but it will mean such a lot to him. Well done.
I might pop back in later but just in case not I'll wish everyone a good day and safe journeys for the travellers. Take care all. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.10 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here for now but rain due later, I have a small wash on the go which will have to go on the airer.
A few jobs to do today, bit of housework and cut OH hair, a few bits to put in the case and I am going to take my car and park it in mums driveway so that dd can get hers on the driveway while we are away, we can get three cars on but the last space is in the dark and she comes home late from work so would prefer her to be under the light.
We are going to have dinner tonight and then go to bed around 7 the taxi is picking us up at 2 tomorrow morning 😳 so we will need a few hours.
Izzy what a lovely thing to do for that man, I bet it means the world to him, you have a kind heart ❤️Have good days all and take care xx8 -
Morning all, it's a bit cooler so I'm going swap out my summer dressing gown for a warmer one as the seasons seem to be on the change.
Yesterday stayed dry and sunny despite the rain warning so I got all the washing dried, I'd rather look out at the skies than listen to the weatherman lately, sorry Derek ( our Welsh one).
I finished my book The Girl in The Walls yesterday which kept you guessing till the end and then it turned out to be a bit of a damp squib. We also watched the Thursday Murder Club, what an apt description Gers a "fluffy joy" indeed !
Today I have a joint of shoulder pork in the slow cooker as we fancy pulled pork for tea, hopefully there will be some lo for the freezer. I'll sort out the ironing basket into "now" clothes and some holiday clothes which I freshened up so that they are ready for ironing, I'm procrastinating again when I should really get stuck in !
TA enjoy your van holiday, hope it stays fine for you.
Ruby have a wonderful time on your holiday.
YorksLass hope you get all the tools sorted.
Have a good Saturday, hugs to the poorlies.
nan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently8 -
I'm back from our donation travels, all done and dusted and, hooray, I now have an empty space under the stairs!
First up was the CS that was having a table top sale, 50p per item with bin bags provided! And no, I wasn't tempted. If I had been, I think DS would have physically dragged me away!
Next came the tool library where we found a parking space directly opposite on the other side of the road. The frame for my Wally trolley came in useful as an aid for getting everything from the car to the venue. The journey home took slightly longer thanks to road work diversions (no-one working of course), another diversion involving a police incident, extra traffic going to Headingley for the rugby and the Otley Road Run. For anyone not familiar, this is a student tradition that takes place every Saturday and involves an unofficial 2-3 mile pub crawl (with or without fancy dress) that takes in 17 pubs - although most only manage about 12!
I'm now going to have a relaxing rest of the day, happy in the knowledge I've done the last bit of the Grand Declutter.Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -

I've woken with sinusitis, my face is very sore, hopefully I'll throw it off I really don't want to try to get a Dr appointment.
I've made a meal plan for our visit to Bristol next week so I need to shop and then do some meal prep to get ahead.
TA have a good time at the van.
Everyone else have a good day.4 -
@snoozer - I have Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom in my stash of books I have saved for younger family members. Read them a number of times when I was younger. Have to get them out soon - Only have two grand nieces and one is just the right age and likes to read. The other is reading adult books already.
@themsthebreaks - I hope your enjoy The MouseTrap. I went to see it in London in 1980 - and still remember it. It had such a surprise turn that for a long time I couldn't remember the name of the other play we went to see!
