I really don't know what to do, we sell to the USA but our items are £10 each, should I just stop selling there? What would you do I really don't want to pay tariffs on the items, it really won't be worth the hassle, I just wondered what people are doing with small items, it's such a shame for small businesses especially if customers also get charged import duty.

It sounds like you have the same incorrect understanding of how tariffs work that Trump does. Tariffs are paid by by the importer not the exporter.

Most small businesses have apparently stopped shipping to the USA.

(I have just listened to a radio programme on this issue: look for 'Business Matters' on the BBC app, broadcast on the BBC World Service this morning, 29 August.)

Actually, from today the sender is required to pay the tariffs up front (of course you can add this to the selling price).  Here is the latest communication from Royal Mail, who created new US specific codes to deal with additional tariff costs…

I’ve stopped selling to the US completely now due to this change.  We didn’t sell a great deal there anyway but as you say it’s just not worth the hassle anymore.
