Carers Allowance after a death

Hi All,

My wife passed away in February of this year. At the time I was receiving carers allowance. This ceased being paid following my submission of the "tell us once" form.

In case it's relevant, I then applied for bereavement support payment, and am currently in receipt of that.

Today I randomly received £739.90 in carers allowance (tagged as DWP CA).

A quick google says that I should have kept on receiving carers allowance for "up to eight weeks" following my wife's passing. Did they !!!!!! up in stopping the payments back in February, and now making up for it?

As 8 x £83.30 (CA) is £666.40, have they overpaid me?

I'm not sure whether this is a "nice surprise", or a mistake I need to contact them about.

TIA,
Andy

They should also send a letter of explanation, so I would wait for that before ringing DWP. Maybe don't spend the money just yet.

Thanks; I'll keep an eye out for a letter. Very strange that it's 6 months later, and I didn't even think to ask about it.

Perhaps there was a week of arrears at death on top of the 8 week run on, so it's 9 weeks total, and the payment is 7 weeks at £81.90 (2024/2025 rate) and 2 weeks at £83.30 (2025/2026 rate) as this equals £739.90.
    I came, I saw, I melted

Ah, I think you've hit the nail on the head! Nice one! Thanks!
