Refund from credit card due to me cancelling Holiday due ito injury

I was going to Alaska with my partner for my 60th birthday and a cruise. Unfortunately he has just had an Achilles tendon ruptured injury and can't fly. Will my credit card I paid for the holiday pay a refund. My holiday insurance only states paying £1500. But the holiday cost me £6000.
Please help. We were due to go in 8 days now

Your insurance should have been taken out to cover your policy..

What grounds would you be asking your credit card company for a refund on?

You have no chance of that.

Insurance should have been taken out to cover the full holiday balance. Sorry.

Agreed, the CC company has absolutely no liability when you cancel a holiday for medical reasons.

Your insurer will only pay you £1500, a very expensive mistake by underinsuring to such a large degree.

Have to agree with everyone above.

Obviously not the same but have you any friends or family that could go with you rather than lose the money?

Unfortunately not.  Your credit card issuer would only be liable under S75 if the holiday supplier had breached the terms of their contract - for instance by going bust, or if the holiday had to be cancelled by them for some reason.  Since you have "chosen" not to go (well, not "chosen" as such, but hopefully you get what I mean), the holiday provider is not at fault in any way.  Your only recourse is to claim from your insurance - this is exactly what insurance is for.
As suggested by a previous poster, could you "sell" the holiday to friends or family?  You'd likely have to pay some fees to the holiday provider to change the names of travellers or whatever, but it might be a better option than losing all the money.

are you and your partner on a joint travel insurance policy? Is the £1,500 the insured amount per person or is it £750 each?
If you each have your own policies you would be looking to make separate claims (even if you were the one that paid) so your policy may cover £1,500 of the £3,000 cost....what would his cover?
When you took the policy did you include that you were going to be on a cruise?

Why do you think the CC should pay you a refund?

If you chose travel insurance with a low level of cover, you have chosen to carry your own risk with regard to the balance over that amount covered.  The cheap policies on the comparator sites often have a low level of cover.  Some people also knowingly accept that risk if the real concern is incurring overseas medical bills.

The limit on a policy will be per person, so if you are both insured on the policy it would be £3k not £1,500. If your partner isnt on your insurance then they should claim for their half the holiday from their insurance and hopefully they got a policy with a more appropriate limit.
