DVD burning/Dell/Samsung/Vista issues

I've just bought a new Dell, mainly for DVD burning purposes. It's got Vista pre-installed. I've burned DVDs using both AVI2DVD and DVD Santa and they look awful. Pixelated, poor colour etc. Both from good quality avis, which on my old LG burner would come out beautifully.
The DVD burner is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653B on a Dell Vostro 200 with Vista. I've looked for firmware with both Dell & Samsung and have downloaded the little they do have but it hasn't helped.
Is it possible I've got my settings wrong in Vista? Is it worth me uninstalling Vista and trying with XP or does this sound like a burner problem?
Cheers

Windows DVD Maker, available in Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate, enables you to create professional-looking video DVDs of your home movies and photos that can be viewed on your DVD players, regardless of geographical region codes.

I use this and it is very good. You can edit file using windows movie maker before burning.

If your video is pixelated and poor colour, that has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware. You need to look at the quality/spec of the original AVI and the software that you are using to convert it.0

Thank you, I'll try the software mentioned. I'm using the same source of avi's though. Could it be that the burner is better and therefore showing up more flaws in the avi's?2016 diet challenge 16lbs/42lbs lost
