So i sent something early august but its taken so long ive received a custom fee request on £30 order ($4 + $7.50 various fees). Apparently because its amazon im expected to pay it, whereas on ebay its up to the customer.

Made me think ive been sending many things to EU (£30-50) and not heard of any issues. I know it varies between country and whats being sent, but is there any general rule or website to find out when customs is needed for the EU.

As you say, it varies by country so there is no universal guide.

Some European countries have done similar to the UK in making it the sellers responsibility for low value packages but a market places' responsibility if sold via the likes of eBay or Amazon.

Just clarifying a few things. You sent the item through Amazon?
Were you selling on amazon.com or amazon.co.uk?
Have you used Amazon Buy Shipping? Is it Amazon asking you to pay the fee?
It's also worth getting up to speed on current US fees, if you can make head or tail of them.
As for a general rule, there isn't one. All countries are different, even within the EU.
If you are selling on Amazon, they do have various schemes to sign up to for sellers selling outside the UK.

amazon.co.uk. dpd through parcel2go, exelot are asking for payment.

Yes its due to the threshold being removed (was $800 now zero) from tomorrow, there are ways to pay customs before and avoid fees called ddp. think i might just give up usa on amazon, only sell 1 every few months anyway.

    Are you a Pro seller?
I do send to the US but not selling on Amazon. As I say they do have various schemes you can register in. One of them you can sell anywhere and Amazon handle all the paperwork and you're essentially just selling to Amazon in the UK. As with anything Amazon they whack on a hefty fee for that so, for me, it isn't worth it but may work for you.
I'm not sure if it applies to non pro sellers but worth asking on the Seller Boards at Amazon to find out.
