Suggestion: a "recommended" forum?

I've recently had to have some very costly tree work done in my garden, and thankfully it was done very well. I only chose the company that did the work on the recommendation from the council, as I hate having to just pick people out of the Yellow Pages & trust to luck.
I thought it might be an idea to have a board in the chat area where people could recommend tradespeople & companies that they have personal experience of, & felt they have given good service and value for money.
People from all over the country use this forum, so if people started recommending, there would soon be a sort of national list...most users here would eventually have someone fairly nearby to use if they wanted a quote for work.
We hear so much about dodgy 'cowboy' companies these days & how you sometimes can't even trust ones with professional logos in the Yellow Pages etc, that I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to use someone that has been recommended.
There must be lots of people like me who don't always have someone they know to do work, or don't know anyoneone who's had the same work done so have no-one to personally recommend anyone.
Don't know if there would be any interest in this, or even if it would work, but would be interesting to have people's thoughts.

The 5 Star Service Board is kinda what your after! Take a look and see!0

I know about the 5-star service board, but at the moment that includes things like people saying how good Tesco was when they asked for a refund...that sort of thing. It's not really a place where people say "I used mr. Plumber of such & such & I would recommend his work to anyone else in this area."
I was thinking of a more structured forum, one specifically for posting details of tradespeople/companies...plumbers, decorators, carpenters, electricians, builders, gas fitters, kitchen fitters etc. The sort of people that everyone needs sometimes but you don't always have someone to recommend one or know who to trust.
I thought it could be a forum that people might think..."I'll go & see if there's one been recommended in my area"...like a sort of list.0 -
I'm not being picky or anything cause it is a good idea but would it not be very hard to find people in your own area? Like would it have to be divded up into regions or somit?0

Hmm, hadn't thought about that bit :-/
Maybe if it was requested that everyone posted the area name in the title, then posted what type of person/company they were recommending, so each title would have "Exeter: Plumber" or "Leeds: Electrician" then people could do a search for their area & then hopefully only companies in that area should come up?
Bit like in the "grab it while you can thread" where everyone's been asked to put the expiry date of the offer, so we have "E: 00/00/04" in most of the titles.0 -
It does sound like a pretty good idea. :-/0
