Student Bank Account Second Year Uni Studen

My daughter is 19 & just about to start the second year of her degree.

She didn't open a student account last year & is looking to open one now however we're finding that alot of banks won't open student accounts for students that aren't in their first year.

She's currently got a Santander current account. Santander will allow students to open a student account in their second year but only if they're transferring in from another bank.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in this position & found any options or if she's best sticking with her existing Santander current account.

Thanks

They won’t open a student account or won’t give the freebies that come with opening a new student account? I’d guess what they don’t want is someone playing the system by opening a new student account each year they are a student. They may allow a student account without giving the freebies.

if that doesn’t work, one solution would be to move the current Santander account elsewhere and then transfer it back to a student account.

Thanks, yes I can understand that they don't want to encourage people to play the system but that isn't what my daughter is trying to do.
I did wonder about opening an account elsewhere & transferring back but that seems alot of work.
It's probably going to mean that she stays with the account she has but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has any suggestions.

I do wonder what proof they want, and if they will actually reject if they see anything suggesting current year isn’t the first year. If the sole requirement is to pay in the student maintenance loan, there is no way a bank will know which year the loan is for.

Good thinking. My daughter already has a Santander account & I think she may be able to switch herself within the account.

I'd advised her to switch to a student account last year & she just never got round to it !
