Cynergy Bank Marketing affilation link. Wrong account was opened

Hi I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I emailed MSE 3 weeks ago, but no response. Tried another email, but not getting anywhere

I used a marketing affiliation link, from my account on 14/03/2020 for Cynergy Bank, which, to be honest, is awful.

I couldn't get into it, as was described here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76926202#Comment_76926202?utm_source=community-search&utm_medium=organic-search&utm_term=cynergy+bank

So I just left my savings there.

However i did use the market affliction link to the top Easy Access Online savings accounts.

I chose the 4.3% account 85. From this MSE marketing affilation link. All i have is the bookmark

However, they are saying I chose the lower one, Issue 27.

Is there any way I can confirm with history on MSE marketing affiliation link I chose from this website?

Cynergy has offered £75 compensation, but I refused, and I know FoS doesn't deep dive. They will just say, why didn't you contact the bank in 2021 to check?

This was Cynergy Bank response.

Dear Mr Baker,

Thank you for getting back to us.

I can confirm that you applied for your Online Easy Access Account (Issue 27) on 14/03/2020 with the rate of 1.31%.

As outlined in our letter dated 30/04/2025, the rate on this account was reduced; however, no notification was sent to you regarding this change. I can confirm that you have received the correct interest since the account was opened.

You have earned the following interest:

  • Interest 845.94 on 17MAR21 –
  • Interest 242.54 on 17MAR22 –
  • Interest 243.27 on 17MAR23 –
  • Interest 600.96 on 18MAR24 –
  • Interest 817.08 on 17MAR25 –

I can also confirm the rates you mentioned are as follows:

  • Issue 27 – 1.31% - available from 14/01/2020.
  • Issue 85 – 4.30% - available from 12/02/2025

I think you are wasting your time. MSE will not be able to pinpoint a specific use of a link over 5 years ago and won't have information about exactly which products were opened during that session.
Based on the information provided, I'd say it is vanishingly unlikely you'd have chosen Issue 85 of the account in 2020 when this account wasn't launched until 2025. There were no easy access accounts paying anywhere close to 4.3% back in 2020. The base rate was 0.25% on 14th March 2020, and was reduced to 0.1% a week or so later.
Perhaps the MSE weekly tip emails from around that time will help refresh your memory as to what rates were actually available:

What sort of account were you looking for?  1.31% was near the top of the easy access rates available in March 2020 and there was nothing of any flavour even close to 4.3%?

Out of curiosity, what did Cynergy feel that they'd done wrong, in order to stump up £75?

That a grest find. Do you have a list of what other Cynergy Bank promotions were at the time?. The problem is I don't think i chose easy access as I wasn't planning on taking anything out at the time. I cannot quote your links yet on here.

Or is there a way for me to find out?

    Thank you

I don't have a list but that Wayback Machine site can be a useful resource to locate archived copies of web pages, so you can use it to find the history of any URL, although can't be relied on as comprehensive.

What support do you have for your claim that you were applying for an account paying 4.3% when this is so far out of line with what was actually available in the market at the time?  What specifically did you mean by "I used a marketing affiliation link, from my account"?

So what did you think you were applying for? A 5 year fix?

Edit: though looking at the interest payments you must have withdrawn some of the balance after March 2021?

Not necessarily - as a variable rate product, the interest rate fluctuated over time (as referenced in OP's quote from correspondence from Cynergy):

The pedant in me is really grated that the Total rate for 03/08/2023 does not show as 1.00% :)
