Go to the local pubs and ask around? May well produce the sort of LL from whom you rented previously.
Owners may now be more inclined to maximise their income from assets, but some will be cash strapped and happy with someone prepared to accept less than perfect. Do buy CO meters and get the electrics checked.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1 -

Thank you for all the suggestions. No I'm not Liz Jones despite the same initials, I shall have to look her up! I've been looking on Facebook but so far no luck. Round here there are plenty of 'old style' types of landlord still but I need to move to West or South Yorks or North Derbys area. I hadn't thought of Gumtree but will bear all the warnings in mind. Have also checked 2 private estates so will keep following this idea up too. Thanks all.1
