Good morning.
Can anyone please recommend a way of creating a free word document that can be saved as I need to create a CV for my daughter?
Thank you

Doesn't have to be a "word document", that's just code for a file that Word can open.https://word.cloud.microsoft/ might be of interest if you have an existing Hotmail/Outlook account.

Another alternative is Softmaker Free Office, I've been using it for years at home and had no problems using documents (. saved as doc or .docx files) from it in MS Word (at work) or the other way round using work documents at home.

LibreOffice is good but for a document like a CV where you want to be sure it looks the same when it's on the hiring managers PC then I'd stick with Word. Some will say to PDF is an alternative but most recruitment agencies require you to submit in doc format because they will be removing your contact details and adding their branding to the document.2 -

It bothers me the amount Libra and other open source "Office" programs are recommended on here. Yes they are free and if you only want to produce your own fairly basic stuff and print it out then it is probably OK (ish). However I've lost count of the number of times I have had to sort out issues for people who have needed to interact with users of the real thing!
As suggested above, if this is just a one off then then using the genuine MS office online is a normally reliable workaround.1 -

Last few recruitment agencies I saw had their own forms for registration purposes, and took a CV in PDF format.Undervalued said:

However it could probably be argued this works both ways.Sidenote: Opening PDF files in anything for editing purposes has always been a proverbial pain in the butt regardless of what you're using.0 -

If you want to cut off your nose to spite your face then thats up to you but when a dozen agencies control the job market and all want doc format CVs you either dont apply for jobs or you accept you need to submit it as a .doc
I know one guy that accepts PDF but the first thing he does is convert it to Doc and its very variable results as to what happens to the formatting... you'd need to be an exceptional candidate for him to waste time trying to reformat the doc for you rather than just moving onto the next candidate who can follow basic instructions.1
