PIP Assessment Help

My son is currently in receipt of DLA. PIP forms arrived for him in June as turning 16 which I completed and sent off in June as well. I phoned DWP several weeks ago for progress update I was told it's with the assessment centre. I have been waiting anxiously thinking in my head please DWP do a paperbased assessment as I sent off 25 pages of strong evidence and my son is also under the care of 15 health professionals. But this morning I have received a text from Capita that they are doing a telephone assessment on 2nd September.

I really can't believe why they are doing this assessment could it be a mistake?

I did ESA credits only for my son recently for which I sent off the same evidence as PIP. I received a phone call from the assessment centre out of the blue it was not prearranged I was shopping at the time they asked me a few questions and said I'm going to do this as a paperbased because if all the evidence I will ask DWP to put your child into the support group and that was it.

I'm my sons appointee and I'm really worried.

Thanks

PIP and ESA are separate benefits with different criteria.

ESA is focused on ability to work, PIP on how disability affects day to day life.

Unfortunately getting a paper based assessment for one doesn't mean getting one for both.

Unlikely that they would do a paper based PIP assessment for a transfer from DLA unless it was extremely obvious that your son qualifies

The assessment will take about an hour or so, will start with social circumstances and then run through the activities starting with the two mobility and then onto the daily living activity.

My understanding is that from the medical evidence it's obvious that he qualifies. He has a genetic condition from birth severe intellectual disability and has a brain age of a 5 year old.

You can try speaking to the health assessment provider:

Are the assessment provider able to change phone call assessment to paperbased if I insist?

Also the text I got does not contain any reference numbers or my child's name is this normal?

The assessment type given is solely at the assessment providers judgement.
They can change it if they feel that's the right course of action.
Yes it's usual to have no personal information in the text message.

    Update

I have today phoned the assessment centre and requested for a paperbased assessment. And I have given the reason I believe that the strong evidence I have sent.

The person on the phone said we will cancel the appointment. And you will receive a phone call within 5 working days to tell me if a paperbased assessment can be done as there is no guarantee the request will be accepted.
