Combining credit limits on cards with same provider (Virgin)

Hi,
Has anyone any recent experience of requesting credit limits be 'merged' when you have two (or more) cards from the same provider, in order to get one large limit on a better card, and then close down the old card?
I remember this being a thing in the early stoozing days with MBNA, and maybe Virgin and typically I've now got a relatively low limit on a new Virgin 0% no-fee BT card and have just paid off my previous Virgin card with a limit of 4x the new one. Obviously having a larger limit on the 0% no-fee card would be very beneficial to me...
Before I contact them, I just wondered what my chances are - is this still a possibility?

Not with the same provider as you but I transferred part of a credit limit from one card to another recently and they said I could transfer it all across to one, providing there was no balance outstanding.0

I was able to do this recently with Santander on their chat service. Easy, no problems.0

Thanks both, good to know - here's hoping!0

Have done it in the past but also been told no in the past. Depends a lot on the lender and a little on the products you hold with them0

Just to update on this - I used chat last week (as the CS phone wouldn't actually get through to anyone to speak to) to request the reduction and associated increase and it had to get referred to another team to review. After 5 days I got a notification email and limit increased on the BT card so £11.5k now on its way at 0%, no fee to a nice savings account for a year2
