There are many sites and apps that offer gift cards at below face value or you pay face value and get a credit. Cheddar is one such - not saying it's the best or biggest discount but it's a legitimate app. For example it's currently giving 4% for an in-store only gift card for Tesco.

Be careful when buying though, not all are legit obviously but more so if you use a credit card to buy them they may consider it a cash like transaction and so sting you for fees and instant interest but using a debit card creates no such problem.

I have a John Lewis credit card that gives me points that translate into vouchers for Waitrose. My local waitrose is handy for me so the vouchers are useful even though I do my main shop elsewhere.

The number of points per £ spent has been slashed so I’m wondering if there is another card with a better reward.

interest rate doesn’t matter as I pay it off in full every month.

I generally use a BA Premium Plus Amex

For supermarket, it is usually save more by purchasing gift card at discount.
If you pick the right issuer, you can buy these gift cards with a credit card and do both :)

I currently use Vitality Amex (on Airtime Rewards who now accept Amex for gift cards) and Santander Edge (on Complete Savings, Perkbox, Perks at Work etc.). I've previously used Barclaycard Avios. All treat gift card purchases as normal purchases, with Cashback at the appropriate rate.
