Hi everyone,
We have woken to an unearthly hush, it feels horrible that the life the little ones brought to the house has gone. I sometimes used to wish for a little peace but I'd much rather they were still here. I went down to Bristol with Laura and the children yesterday and came back very late with Steve. The house is very much a work in progress but it will be lovely when they have found homes for everything (a near impossible task I think).
I'm going to take it easy today, despite the house needing work, it will still be there tomorrow and I am feeling exhausted. We'll probably go across to Chris and Crystal's to collect their cat to look after while they are away camping with Crystal's family for the week. They're heading up to Whitby so I hope the weather is nice for them.
Oh, I forgot, I managed to slice my thumb with one of L and B's new knives, it bled a lot and is very annoying, luckily it's my left hand.
TA, best wishes to your DGD.
Gers, well done on the weight loss and gathering the motivation to mow the lawn.
Mehefin, you will look very smart.
Have a good day.14 -
Morning everyone TA sorry to hear DGDis in so much pain I hope she feels better soon. MEHEFIN love the waistcoat very stylish. It’s mild but dull here although it’s definitely getting chillier on a night . My youngest son and his family are away in Northumberland for a week I think the first half they have good weather but then it has to change they aren’t bothered they can find plenty to do and as they say it’s better than been at work. I’ve got a beef joint in cooking I will make Yorkshire puddings and veg later . We have the dogs to walk later but other than that not a lot happening we don’t do anything on a bank holiday to busy and far to much traffic that’s the joys of been retired we can go anytime that’s if I can drag the hubby out of the house. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing13

Morning all and thanks @Gers for the start. It's cloudy again but sunny intervals should appear this afternoon with top temps of 23 deg so a little bit warmer, light winds and no rain.
Yesterday I gave the radiator in the hallway a light sanding, a wipe down and put on the first coat of paint. I was planning to do a second coat today but have postponed that as DS is collecting me soon for a BBQ at theirs, probably the last one of the year. I'll be staying overnight and, by the time I get back home tomorrow, won't feel like doing much so the painting will have to wait until Tuesday. I have two old drawers that were being used for storage but don't need any more so he can take those to cut up for kindling on their fire pit.
@mehefin - That's a very fetching waistcoat for the wedding, you'll look grand in the photos.
@TA - Glad to hear DGD's op went ahead and I do hope she'll be careful at the caravan - don't want any more mishaps! Pleased to hear you are on the YW priority list, like you I'm registered for water deliveries. Maybe casually drop into conversations with neighbours that you are "allowed" to use the hosepipe? I know what you mean about upsetting the apple cart though.
@Scarlet - My trolley's definitely called Wally and I'm dithering over whether to keep it or not, it's far too big for me. If I can find a smaller one (or maybe a drag bag) Wally will end up at the re-homing centre aka CS.
@Chrisca - Your DH will be much more comfortable now the catheter's gone and no doubt he's pleased to be back home. Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the new hearing aids - it's a lot of money to shell out for something you're not completely happy with so maybe the NHS ones are the way to go.
@WL - Pleased to hear you didn't get lost again!
Right, time to throw a few things into the overnight bag so I'll wish everyone a peaceful Sunday with sleep wishes thrown in for those needing them. Take care. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning all
Nice bright day here, the wm is about to finish and another load to go in, we washed all the outdoor sofa covers yesterday so they are ready to go back on.
We have mum, sister and her partner coming for bbq later for sisters birthday, sister and partner are vegetarian so I am doing a load of veg for them including fresh beetroot coconut infused carrots and cabbage with dill butter, I will make some coleslaw and some new potatoes as well, for the meat eaters we have a bit of brisket which is in the sc and will crisp it up later on the bbq some sausages and ribs. Should be enough hopefully.
Most of my packing done yesterday just the last minute things to put in, this time next week we will be in Skiathos having lunch and waiting for our ferry to the island 😃
Mehefin I love the waistcoat- very stylish x
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Hi all
I think I missed posting for a few days but have been reading along. Best wishes to all the poorlies.I was a bit floored by the antihistamines recommended by the pharmacist for the rash on my arm. I have stopped taking them after 4 days cos I couldn’t cope with the dizziness and fatigue. It’s still there but not itchy so will just have to take itscourse. Still no idea what it is.Have managed to resealable the back door step this morning and feed the veggies and flowers - that’s about as much as will get done outside as it’s already quite warm again.Take care

Afternoon all, nice day today.Had to wake DH at 9 yesterday and today, he's sleeping much better than when he had his hip replaced last year, and is quietly pleased with his mobility so far. The hospital rang this morning to check on him too. DS2 and DGS have just been to see him and we sat out in the garden for a bit which was nice.I've got various options for tea, depending on DH appetite, he's still not been eating much.TA hope DGD has a good rest at the caravan.Chrisca glad DH will be feeling more comfortable now.Mehefin, lovely waistcoat.Snoozer, I remember that empty feeling. When the DGC were much smaller, before DS2 moved out once his house was finished, they stayed overnight several times a week. Even though it was quite full on at times I loved it.Hope you all enjoy the nice weather while it lasts- we are forecast 1cm. of rain on Friday:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Afternoon everyone
Firstly, Snoozer that must have been awful for you this morning...a friend of mine, without grandchildren, often says I seem to have little one a lot...I always reply that I'm happy she's so happy to be here, she'll be bigger soon enough and life will get boring. The little ones will be missing you both too.
Mehefin...I really like your waistcoat, you'll look very smart
The last couple of days have been very cloudy and dull, today is lovely and warm with no wind which is nice...it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. I have tidying to do in the garden so I will alternate that with reading my Sunday Times in the sunshine. I need to pack as well as I'm going to Nuremberg to visit eldest DD on Tuesday...so far I've just got knickers in my suitcase!
Little one stayed last night...at 5am I woke on the edge of my bed, she was like a starfish in the middle, so I went into her empty bed. She came through. later and woke me ..'granny I thought you'd disappeared it's 8 o'clock'..so I get up and puts my contact lens in...'granny sorry it says 7 not 8.' So we snuggled back into bed and read a pile of books.
Yesterday we went to the Book festival at Edinburgh, where we saw Julia Donaldson...'the real live Julia Donaldson' as little one has told everyone. She read some of her books, with members of her family including her grandchildren acting them out, it was so good and little one loved it. Afterwards we stood for quite a long time in a queue to meet her and get a couple of books signed, including her new one which she had just read...little one beamed when it was her turn and we had a nice little chat. We ate a picnic lunch watching a man juggling nine balls and then firesticks, which little one thought was amazing and then saw little girls doing Irish dances...which inspired little one to spend the rest of the day dancing about.
Then we went to see another author, who I'd never heard of, but it was drawing comic book characters, which I knew little one would enjoy....well she was really nice and little one loved it....I've promised to look on ebay for some of her books. Home on the train and we were shattered,
We've been down to mam and dads this morning and then DD picked her up...hence my peaceful afternoon. They are off to Menorca on Tuesday for a week...little one's first time flying, so I'll have my fingers crossed that she likes it. We were practising my 4 words of Spanish this morning...she seemed to think her ears can only hear people who are speaking English, so, if someone was speaking another language next to her, it just wouldn't go into her ears...
I'll have my fingers crossed all week that she stays well while she's away, her consultant said there's no reason for her not to go and DD will take everything she might need just in case, but I'll still worry.
Right I'd best move
Hope everyone is having a good day xx7 -
Hello all from Seattle! We are 8 hours behind you so it’s just gone 6:30am. I tried to stay in bed for longer but once awake I find it really hard, plus I would have missed this sunrise:We are staying a few days on Vashon Island where DIL’s father and stepmom live. Our house has stilts as it’s literally on the water. Saw some seals last night whilst sitting on the decking. Today we are planning a hike of around 3 miles, then shopping and some cider tasting. This week is definitely not OS but we are making the most of the family time.@snoozer sending hugs xx a big change for you all xx
@WickedLady4 - so annoying about going wrong on your walk but sadly lots of permitted paths/public footpaths aren’t maintained or are ‘rerouted’ to suit landowners. Ask me how I know… Glad you enjoyed the fish n chips mmmmm
Annoying about the hearing aids @Chrisca50 - I hope things improve for you x
Glad DGD’s op went okay @TravellingAbuela
That’s a lovely waistcoat @mehefin - you will look so smart 😊
Oh and can recommend the film The Last Showgirl which I saw on the plane. Pamela Anderson was very good.Have a good day all

@Coxy11 - One of my favorite books to read when I was young was Betty MacDonald's book Onions in the Stew, written about her life on Vachon Island. Always wanted to go there, but the closest I came was taking the train to Canada and seeing the islands in the distance.5
