Price cap, Gas

Gas and elec are usually packaged together but it is possible to secure each fuel separately. How can I find out the current predictions for consumer gas or electricity (to help inform a switching decision)?

    Many of the suppliers do their own price forecasts - but these seem as you say totals - at EDF and EOn anyway.

    The independent one if you like - Cornwall Insight - used to do a regular 3 quarters ahead - per fuel - but a quick google I can only see Oct - who's price settlement period must be close.

    And even on the Q4 this year - their price has moved up £40 - mainly on gas actually - from a cut to a rise - so its still a volatile market - and govt and Ofgem revising costs and plans - so adding even more charges on regular basis - like WHD extension and Sizewell C funding contribution etc - don't make any of their jobs any easier.

    So in Jul - they forecast £1697
    But now as of this week - using 18th Aug - their final - is an increase by £17 to £1737

    Gas 6.02p --> 6.19p - in just 6 weeks.

    So even across a couple of months for the experts - it's all a bit crystal ball - even for the next quarter.

    Which is why the likes of BG on theirs - reports confidence levels as very low for Q1/2/3 2026 - its simply crystal ball gazing.

    As above CI - used to as I say do regular 3 quarters ahead - perhaps if you search they still will.

    They used to even produce predictions 5 years ahead - they might still but they were so unstable I gave up reading them about 3-4 years ago as the crisis peak came and went.

    Thanks for the replies. The energy market is even less transparent than I thought. Bundling gas & elect, volatile standing charges for each and the inability for anyone to predict with any degree of confidence.

    If you could call the top and bottom of the FTSE you would never need to work again, it’s the market.
    Gas and electricity are not. bundled together either.
