Advertising as a local electrician ...How?

The only advertising I do is Google, I’ve never paid for anything,  was on the free yell . com service but never got anything from them.
I get a decent amount of my work from people who look locally on google maps and then see the reviews from my customers. I consistently get around 100 views a month, which results in maybe 8-10 actual customers. 
Mostly though it’s word of mouth, I’m the same as you, winding down to retirement and don’t want ‘big’ jobs,  just boiler services, landlord checks and repairs and fitting/removing fires and cookers. 
I put leaflets up in the local chippy etc.  but nobody has ever mentioned seeing them when calling me.  

What I do get is calls from people who’ve seen my van in their street, it’s hard to miss - bright red with orange and white lettering.  I designed the stickers online and they cost me around £100 on ebay, plus the time to put them on my van,  it looks great even if I do say so myself. A local firm wanted £400 to do it 3 years ago.

Have you thought of advertising in local corner shop and chip shop notice boards. They still exist.  Also you could try getting leaflets or calling cards printed and delivering them yourself with maybe the help of family members.  They should not cost a lot.  Calling cards cost about £20 per hundred. Leaflets a bit more.
