Motor insurance - putting another driver on works for older drivers too!

I know Martin advises young drivers to put an older person such as a parent with a good driving record on their policy as an additional driver as this could make it a bit cheaper. We discovered by accident that it works the other way too - my husband an I are both in our late 60s with long, clean driving records, and our 40 year old daughter wanted to borrow my car for a few days and when we enquired how much extra it would be, the cost went down by £4 a month, so we'll keep her on the policy and enquire about putting her on her Dad's polcy at renewal.

Yep. My mum's 88 and still driving happily. Adding me on, reduces her premium by £150.0

Yet when I asked the price difference to add my 53 year old daughter to my insurance for my Honda Jazz hybrid the price increased by £180 a year.
Probably because she doesn't have a car and insurance presently.
Since she would never be driving my car anyway I didn't add her.0
