Gifted Deposit Bankruptcy Check outside the UK - Worried!

Hi all. Posting here as I'm deeply concerned (hopefully wrongly so).
We are buying our first home in the UK, my french-native mother-in-law gifted us a sum to help with the deposit.
Here's the impasse. Lender wants confirmation that the giftor (french) has passed bankruptcy checks (or the french equivalent).
Lender says "we will rely on your professional judgement, but, tell us all is well."
Conveyancer says - "we can't confirm the validity of a foreign search, it's outside the UK"
So I've been stuck between rock and hard place for about a month - and the seller is getting very twitchy.
My questions are;
1) Is this normal, how are such overseas bankruptcy checks usually resolved? (who is being unreasonable here?)
2) I have what's called a "FICP" already - confirmation from bank of france that the giftor has never been bankrupt. Shouldn't this be enough?
3) Could this be a show-stopper?

If the conveyancer won’t accept the FCIP they need to tell you what they will accept.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Conveyancer suggests that this will "probably be accepted as-is" but sounded cagey.silvercar said:If the conveyancer won’t accept the FCIP they need to tell you what they will accept.
That makes sense
I think a big part of my worry is that the lender takes a week between replies, which I found alarming - but is apparently quite normal according to my conveyancers.
I'm expecting some form of lender feedback this week, hoping it's good news - in the meantime, trying not to worry!0
