Woodworm In Furniture

I purchased a coffee table last December. Its now showing evidence of woodworm, only a few holes with fine sawdust but enough to make me move it out the house.
Luckily no other parts of the house have any evidence.

Ive emailed the company but had no reply. Is anyone able to tell me how I stand from a legal point of view?
Im planning on having a professional look at the table and house to determine that the woodworm is contained and did originate in the table.

Thank you

Need to establish where they have come from first. If the professional produces a report stating that they are in the table and no-where else in the house, then you should be looking for a repair or replace. The retailer can choose the most cost effective option. If neither are available they can refund and deduct for the use you have had.

Its over 6 months old so its up to you to prove they were present at the point of purchase rather than it becoming infested since you took ownership.
  • I have got confirmation there is no woodworm present in my house.
I have contacted the company 4 times, still no answer. They are a small family run company so I dont think there is anyone "above" I can contact (if that makes sense).
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you

If you have a written report from someone credible (not just a mate) then it's time to write to the retailer asking them to provide a resolution and refund you the cost of your report, or you'll take them to court.
  • I don't think woodworm emerges from wood that quickly, where did you buy from OP?

Why not just buy some proprietary woodworm killer and have done ??
Is it really worth all the aggravation that you are going through ??

Am I allowed to name the company if I have not yet had any replies from them?

You're always allowed to name the company as long as what you're saying is truthful.

I have done treatments with an over the counter product. If it needs stronger chemicals that I dont have access to I will need to pay

I also didnt originally think they would emerge that quickly. But to be honest I've never had to know too much about these kind of things. The pest control person said if the wood used to make the table had the larvae in it already, this could account for the reason they are now there
